Women’s World Cup T20I is ongoing. Our Indian Women Cricket Team lost to England in the Semi-final round. Our beloved Ace Batswoman Mithali Raj has been dropped as the Team Captain before the Semi-finals with England. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was made the captain of the team.
To this incident and decision, Mithali Raj’s Manager, Annisha Gupta lashed out on the new captain. she called the captain to be, “manipulative, lying, immature, undeserving captain”. Also blaming the semi-final loss on this decision of making Harmanpreet the captain, she went on to say many more things. “Politics, not a sport”, is what the Women’s team is all about, she posted from her unofficial Twitter account.
“Unfortunately, @BCCIWomen believes in politics not sport. After witnessing what @M_Raj03 ‘s experience could do in IndvIre it’s shocking that they went with what pleases @ImHarmanpreet -a manipulative, lying, immature, undeserving captain”. Her very words blaming the loss totally on Harmanpreet.
The new captain had this to say on this change and the loss, ” ‘no regrets’ as the decision was taken keeping team’s interests in mind”. All her mean tweets were not to be seen anywhere, and the account has been deleted. But, bold enough she informed the ESPNCricInfo, that the tweets were hers and were made with a full mind.
When many newspersons, in many interviews asked her about her tweets, she was straight in her answer just as she was when she told her opinion. “Maybe I was a little angry but I think it comes from the right place because I don’t stand for unfair treatment. The kind of favouritism that has been shown is very apparent. I think everybody can see the kind of favouritism that is being shown to certain members of the team”.
Annisha accuses the whole camp of biases and partiality. “I’d like to say that I don’t know what is going on on the inside but, now that the matches are being telecast, we can see who is performing and who is not”. The reason the camp gives, ‘Giving a chance to the youngsters’, she feels is just an act.
Not given a deserved position
Mithali is the leading scorer put together both the genders. She stands first with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Harmanpreet Kaur behind her in the line.
To the negligence shown on Mithali, and to the favouritism pouring on others, Annisha had this to say. “There are statements coming out that they wanted to give younger cricketers a chance. But you don’t drop your senior-most, most experienced players in a semi-final against a country like England. It goes beyond giving the youngsters a chance”.
