The famous Keto Diet which focusses only on consuming fats and proteins and very less of carbs has become the diet of the decade. Similar to other low-carbohydrate diets, this Keto diet has high-fat consumption levels. This diet is aimed at increasing the metabolism and energy conversion of the body. Letting our body get into a state of ‘ketosis’, which utilises the fat into energy is its main focus.
The Keto diet is said to lower the blood sugar and insulin levels and shifts the body’s metabolism to fat utilisation than carb utilisation. Scientists and Dietitians are researching on the efficiency of such diets. Agreeing that, ” There’s absolutely nothing more important for our health than what we eat each and every day”.
Sara Seidelmann, a cardiologist and nutrition researcher at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston has researched on this matter and she gives us this neglected part of inculcating such diets. Having a monotonous life is very dangerous, and even having a monotonous diet is also dangerous.
In her words, Sara says, ” No matter where you live or what your daily diet is like, banning entire food groups and thinking you can cheat your way into good health might work for a while, but it could also send you into an early grave“.
Categorising the Keto diet into the diets which are of Restrictive type may have long-term consequences in our lives. The benefits these diets offer are very overpowering to even warn the people. The low-carb diets help reduce weight rapidly and the insulin levels would immediately get low to controlled levels.
A Laboratory experiment conducted carefully to study the effects have given good results. The weight loss is true, burning of fat is true too, but, does not burn more than a regular routine diet. Then why does a regular diet does not give us the required results as Low-carb does? It is only because we force ourselves to ditch all the sugars and dangerous carbs, which show up their benefits.
According to our natural body functioning, we humans are made to process Carbs and gain energy from them. Only in an extreme starving situation that our Body would fuel itself burning fats. Works as a form of defence mechanism to not et the body die. But if we force ourselves to survive on only fats for a longer period of time, is very dangerous.
Such Low Carbohydrate and High Fat diet should not be executed and implemented for more than a few months. Use of them just to get to shape and then taking in a balanced diet and required lifestyle changes is advisable.
